Wacky Wednesday

I hope that you all had a very happy Halloween and that you believed your children when they told you there there was not any homework assigned this evening!

We had a great day in 201! Thank you to Damiya's mom for organizing our treat bags. Thanks to all of the 201 families who brought in treats to share. We had more than enough for all.
Today we...
-did some morning math warm ups
-went to Science Art
-read, reread, and discussed "Mr. Macklin's Jack O'Lantern" by David McCord. We discussed the poem's tone and mood. We found literary devices.
-solved The Case of the Tricking Treat. First, we solved math problems. Then, we cracked a code. Next, we eliminated suspects. Several problems and codes later, many finally solved the crime!
-turned into birds in the Science Lab. Each child had a different "beak" and travelled to different "habitats."
-Went to lunch and recess.
-Enjoyed some free time with friends at the end of the day!

Math Tantrum Tuesday

Do All of the hwp for lesson 3.7 .Write equations. Show all work

Today I, and others, had a mini-math tantrum. These multi step problems are difficult.Every kid in this room CAN do this work. Staring at the problem is not a strategy. Underline. Take notes. Make sense of what is happening. Match words to number. Write an equation. This is what trying looks like! Go for it!!
Suffixes practice: -able,-ible
-Read!

Halloween Notes:
-Kids may wear a costume to school.  Kids will not be changing in and out of costumes. Come to school dressed for the day!
-Candy: you may bring some. There are 26 kids in our class. Only bring the amount that you intend to share. We will not be returning large bags of candy.
-In the morning, I could use some help assembling treat bags. If you are on the "approved" list and can help for about an hour, please let me know via email. mport@cps.edu

We will take the Chapter 3 Math test on Monday.
Don't forget, there is not school on Friday

Wondering Wednesday

Why are the celery leaves changing color?
The leaves aren't droopy anymore. I wonder why?
Why do leave stop making chlorophyll?
What is the difference between leaves and needles?

Today was filled with many wonderings.

This evening at home...

  • Study for tomorrow's math test. Today we did the Review. This evening, prepare for the test.
How do I study for a test?
-Pick some of the problems that were the most difficult for you.
-Write equations for these problems and teach a parent how you solved.
-Teach someone at home how to model the distributive property in the last problem.
-Teach someone at home how to write and equation that models the distributive property.
Use IXL to prepare. Focus on the 4th grade skills: D.6,D.7,D.9-12 and D.28
