Temperature Tantrum Tuesday

GTK:
-There will be no school tomorrow.
-Stay tuned for an announcement regarding Thursday.
-There is no school for kids on Friday
-All after school activities have been cancelled. All kids will be released at 2:30.

-Jose Born to Dance questions
-Figurative Language work- Do Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. If we don't have school on Thursday, do Thursday and Friday.

Marshmallow Monday

Yes, as promised, today was the Hot Cocoa Reading Challenge Reward Day
Many were late, but most kids got to school today. Stay tuned for messages about the weather this week.
This evening at home...
-Go Math HWP lesson 6.5. The classwork was tough! Make sure to use a model or math to show your work and explain your thinking.
-Vocabulary Choice work:your child is coming home with a packet of choices. Select one option. Artistic options must include color.
-Read

Ask your child about recess! Many kids are getting pulled by the coaches because of excessive talking or playing in line. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

Thurrrrreeeezing Thursday

This evening at home....
-20 minutes of IXL Math: Fraction Concepts/Equivalence. Fourth Grade is Q.1 and beyond. Some kids are working in the 5th grade.
-Read in the book of your choice for 20 minutes or more. From the list I gave you today, pick a response. Make sure to respond in complete, error-free sentences. Text evidence is a must.

If you have not handed in the Vocab Toon, get it finished!
Please look over the vocabulary words for My Brother Martin. We have a test tomorrow.

Weathery Wednesday

Today we....

  • worked on some morning math warm ups
  • shared our idiom homework with our table mates and made them "presentation-ready
  • went to Science Art
  • rotated in small group centers to complete: work with Mrs.Ginn, Vocabulary Cartoons, or My Brother Martin discussion questions.
  • explored how to reduce fractions to simplest form
  • went to the Science Lab to simulate cloud formation.
  • had lunch.
  • went to Grammar Boot Camp.
  • worked on our MLK Essay
This evening at home...
  • complete the HWP and today's classwork for Go Math lesson 6.3
  • finish the Vocab 'Toon you began in class today. Make sure to include the word, the definition, the part of speech, the pronunciation. You may also include examples, non examples, pictures or scenes that show the word in action.
  • R.Notebook pages 21 AND 22.
  • Read for for twenty minutes or more.

Field Trip Notes:
We will leave school right after Gym. We will eat lunch at school. There is no need to bring an lunch.

Each child needs a clean, empty, clear plastic bottle for the science lab tomorrow. If you have more than one, bring it in!!! Please!!!!

Reminders

Hope that all of the 201 Families are staying warm this evening. Here are a few reminders...

  • Each child will need a clean, clear plastic bottle with a lid for this week's Lab on Wednesday.
  • We have a field trip on Thursday. I can accept money tomorrow and Wednesday. I know that the trip is expensive, but theater tickets are pricey, as is the price of the bus.  This is a special production, just for us. It is going to be a great show. I hope all call attend! 
  • Our Hot Cocoa Read In will be this week! This is a special reward for all kids who participated in the Winter Break Reading Challenge.
  • On Friday, I handed out Six Flags Reading Challenge sheets. Each child who completes the challenge will earn a free ticket to Six Flags!

-I am finished grading the math tests. I need to tally the scores and enter them. You should see them on Tuesday.

Water Wednesday

Today we.....

  •  talked about water-usable water, and it's scarcity. Ask your child about today's Science Lab.
  • went to Grammar Boot Camp
  • prepared for tomorrow's math test and worked on espark goals.
  • read text about the Land and Water in the West Region. We also answered text dependent questions.
  • did our morning math warm ups, practicing how to "cube" word problems.
  • read and compared two articles to learn about text structure.
  • began watching a Brain Pop about Dr. Martin Luther King. This was the first step in our newest project about his life and work.

This evening at home....

  • Read!
  • Complete the Owen and Mzee questions
  • Study for tomorrow's math test. Do some sample problems in the math book. Explain to a parent how to do the problems in the Review/Test.
  • If you have time, do IXL.

PLEASE, PLEASE BRING IN TRIP MONEY!

Materials Needed:
For next week's lab, each child will need a clear, clean, wrapper-free plastic bottle with cap.Wednesday is our lab day.

Talk About It Tuesday

Today we talked with our partners to help us understand text structures and the key "signal words." This week we are focusing on Cause and Effect and Comparison. Today we also spent some time reviewing for Thursday's Math Test. All students should come home with corrected and completed Review Tests. Students have marked problems that need more attention. Today we also reviewed some vocabulary by playing a Kahoot, and began our first day of Grammar Boot Camp.


This evening at home....

-Complete the double sided Fact and Opinion practice
-In Super Science, read pages 2 and 3. Find and highlight 5 facts and 5 opinions
-make sure that the Math Review is complete and get a signature to show that you spent time going over some of the problems.
-Please bring in Trip forms and money.

Misty Monday

Good Afternoon 201 Families....

  • began our day with a Math Warm Up!
  • talked about Radiation, Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, Run Off, Collection and Infiltration. Phew! Say "CONGRATULATIONS" to your child if they can explain each concept.
  • read and discussed Own and Mzee in Journeys. Kudo to all of the kids who read it over the weekend.
  • went to Library
  • took the Winter MAPS test
  • did some more Science.
GTK:
  • Each week, let's shoot for an hour of IXL Math and Reading. I know that each child has a different schedule, so I will leave the timing up to you! Pick your days. 
  • Please send in Field Trip forms and fees. I know that this is a costly trip, but I think that it will be a valuable experience. We have our two chaperons for the trip: Danilla's mom and Mia's mom. Thank you to others that have offered to help!
  • We will take a Math test on Wednesday or Thursday, depending on how tomorrow's review session goes.
This evening at home..
  • Complete the even problems in the Chapter Review.
  • Complete the Owen and Mzee vocabulary page, front and back.
  • Complete pages 313 and 314 in the Journeys Readers Notebook. Remember to read the directions with care.
  • Read!

Feel Good Friday

Hello Team 201 Families,

Today we took the Reading MAPS test, reviewed some math, and got caught up on the week's classwork. I was able to have a short discussion with each child about today's MAPS results. No matter the target skill, the prescription is to read more!   On Monday, we take the Math MAPS.

This weekend at home...

  • Please read the "Math Note" that I am sending home today.
  • Read, in Journeys, Owen and Mzee
  • If you have time, work on IXL Math
  • Field Trip Forms!!!!
We will be ready for the Chapter 4 Math test on Wednesday. It will cover division strategies, including  long division and multi-step, multi-operational problem solving.

Thrilling Thursday

Today we....

  • Declared Zizi the winner of the in-class Spelling Bee. Students who were disqualified on guidance or locusts will compete for the Alternate position tomorrow.
  • worked on solving multistep problems that use division, multiplication and addition. Don't forget to make a model, take notes, and write an equation before you begin the work. Start with a plan!
  • began our unit on The West Region.
  • did some morning math warm ups to keep skills sharp.
  • worked on our Water Cycle project. Ask your child about evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation, run off, collection, infiltration, ground water and aquifers.  
  • Read!
We do Not have a Journeys Reading test tomorrow. We DO have the MAPS reading test tomorrow at 10:30.

This evening at home....
  • complete the hwandp for Go Math lesson4.12. Write equations and take notes. Don't forget to write the units!
  • Read!
  • Complete the I Could Do That extension questions. There are two. Tips: Topic sentence/text evidence/error free.
  • Empty the Th Folder. Get the new Reading Log signed and show a parent the January Calendar Card.

Today we...
  • were assigned "Book Club" books in Library.
  • worked on Morning Math warms ups
  • set "Wordsolutions" as our one word-action-based resolutions.
  • read I Could Do That! in Journeys.
  • discussed Cause and Effect text structure
  • learned how to subtract remainders to find quotients.
  • had some time to read our Book Club books.
  • used a Quizlet to preview Weather Unit concepts.
  • received Spelling Bee materials. 201 will hold a Spelling Bee on Thursday. Sorry for the late notice. We learned about it this morning!
*We will take the Winter MAPS Reading Test on Friday.
*We have an assembly on Thursday. Get ready for the orchestral sounds of a string quartet.
*Look for Field Trip forms later this week.

This evening at home...
  • Many students have not turned in the SW bookmarks. These should be fully colored.  
  • Complete the hw and practice for Go Math lesson 4.7
  • Complete the "Frayer Models" for any two of this week's vocabulary words.  I am sending home a sample and the word list. The words can also be found in I Could Do That!
  • Read!!
If you have not completed the Winter Reading Challenge, bring it asap!! If you left school early before break, just do your best to "retroactively" complete the sheet.
