A mason jar is perfect for this project.

Hello Team201 Families,

Next week, we will be further exploring density of liquids and chemical changes. Next Wednesday, each child will make a lava lamp. In order to make this happen, we need some materials.

Each child should bring in
-a 12 or 16 oz. jar with a lid, such as a mason jar or a clean tomato sauce jar. It should be clean and have a tight seal.
We are trying to reduce our use of plastic. Plastic bottles with lids can be used as a last resort.

Some children will need to bring
-packets of alka seltzer
-corn oil

Alka-Seltzer Original Effervescent Tablets, 36CT
We will need a few packets of Alka Seltzer so that each child can observe the chemical reaction.
If just a few families donate these supplies, all children will be able to participate.

Report Card Sign Up Genius Update

Well, the site is called Sign Up Genius, but this "genius" teacher is modeling that "mistakes happen."
I have just sent a message to each parent who has signed up for a conference via the Sign Up Genius Link. I will copy that message below.  If you have not signed up, please do!

Hello again!
I have just checked the Sign Up and notice that there are still some conflicts. There are several spots that are still double or triple booked. I will honor the appointment for the first name in each time slot. This is confusing, I know.

Thank you for your patience. I know that you all are very busy and that this is a big pain! Please accept my apologies.

Also note that by the time you receive this, time slots may be filled.  I am always happy to schedule a conference on an alternate date. Thanks again for your understanding.

Please note that I have added my name to all of the "extra" spots. If you see the "sign up" option, it is available.  If you would like me to add your name, just let me know!

Report Card Conference Issue

Hello Parents,

We have a problem! Somehow, there were additional conference spots added to each time.  For example, there are four parents who signed up for a conference at 12:00.  I can only meet with one family at at time.   I will honor the appointment for the first person who signed up for each time. For example, Terrence's  mom is the first person signed up for a 12:00 conference.  She will get this time slot.

If you are the second, third, or fourth person on the list for a given time, please select a new time slot!

If you have questions or need my help, please contact me. mport@cps.edu

Here is the link. I apologize for the confusion.

P.S.  I told the kids that I would not post today's homework. They were supposed to write it down today!
