Field Trip Friday

What a day!! The Guinea Pigs may be loud, but they sure are active and curious! Today's participation at the American Writers Museum was great. The museum has asked us to share some of our poetry. They'd like to publish it on their website. We will work on this next week.

Since we had a bit of extra time today, and since we had two awesome parent helpers, we decided to walk down the Cultural Mile and visit The Bean. CBS News was on location and took some shots of Team 201/The Guinea Pigs in action. Check out the CBS 5 o'clock news this evening!

This weekend at home...

  • read The Fun They Had in Journeys
  • finish the Chapter 10 Review. We will be ready to test on Tuesday. Please try every problem and circle the problems that are "trouble spots." We will meet in small groups to review on Monday.
  • Don't forget to show someone the new Field Trip form. We travel to the Garfield Park Conservatory on May 10. We will need two to three parent volunteers.
  • Kids, you have a study guide. We will definitely take a reading test next Friday.
As always, IXL Math and Reading, along with ST Math, are great ways to brush up on skills pre-MAPS test.

Proud Chicago Kids.

Making a Point Monday

Image result for anchor chart lines rays angles

Hey Team 201 Families!

Today's math lesson seems simple at first, but requires great attention to detail and strong visual discrimination skills. The symbols matter. The order of the letters matter. The lines matter. On tonight's homework, remember to use the proper "hat" to name each line, line segment and ray.  Don't forget to use the angle symbol!  Use these charts to help you....

This evening at home...

  • Go Math 10.1- evens or all
  • Vocabulary match
  • Everliving Tree questions
  • Poetry Tic Tac Toe will be checked on Friday.
Thank you so much for the donations!

No Homework Passes, please!

Don't forget to bring in your clean, clear plastic bottle and cap tomorrow!
It's Lava Lamp day! We need a bit more cooking oil and alka seltzer.

Weekend Update-Book Fair

Hey Team 201 Families......
BookFair

Don't forget that 201 will visit the Book Fair for the first and only time this Monday. Of course, the Book Fair will be open during Report Card Day! Thanks to all of the parents and P.T.A. members that make this happen.

There are still plenty of spots available, and I am looking forward to meeting with you all on Wednesday.

Don't forget about Tuesday's special Science Lab activity. We still need vegetable oil, and alka- seltzer tablets. We only need one or two kids to bring in the oil. Each child will need a clean, clear plastic plastic bottle.

Check out this video to learn about physical and chemical changes.

Feeling Like Friday Fursday

I am taking some Image result for poetic license with today's title.

This long weekend at home....

  • log on to Think Central to review the math and reading tests.
  • In Journeys, read The Everliving Tree and respond in writing to the "Writing About Reading" found on page 703.
  • finish the The West Bookmark. Each state should also include: a mark that indicates the location of the capital ( on the outline), two or more landmarks for each state, an illustration and an informative caption for each landmark, one or two "fun facts." These may include additional state symbols.  The second landmark may need to go on the back of the bookmark!
Thank you to Yusra and her family for the Science Lab supplies. Please scroll back to yesterday's post. We still need one more bottle of oil and several more packs of Alka Seltzer.  Each child will need his or her own small water bottle with lid.

Adages and Proverbs

Adages and proverbs are similar to idioms. They are figurative expressions that have withstood the "test of time." Basically, these are words of wisdom that have a deeper meaning. Using context clues can help you figure out their meanings.

Here are the examples from this week's story:

Esther realized that it's never too late to right a wrong.

When Esther wanted to get the right to vote, she knew that the longest journey starts with a single step.

In the Wyoming Territory, Esther found that a woman's work is never done.

Esther would not have listened to someone who said, "Don't rock the boat."

For Esther, there was no time like the present for getting the right to vote.

Esther seemed to believe that if at first you don't succeed, you should try again.

Esther proved that where there's a will, there's a way.

The West

The buffalo still roam in Yellowstone National Park!

What is a geyser? Why is this one called "Old Faithful?"

Giant Redwood trees are old! How old? Find out!

An offshore breeze creates the perfect conditions for this surfer.

The Grand Canyon is ever changing. What's that river doing at the bottom of the canyon? I know, I know, technically, Arizona is in the Southwest, not the West. It is still west of Chicago!

Walking or biking across the Golden Gate Bride is a "must do." Bring your sweater and remember the old saying, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."

Hurray for.....

Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, Moab, Utah. The hike is worth the effort. Trust me on this one!

A volcano? Where in the wild west could this be?

Use the links to help you create your West region fan book. Can you guess why this is one of my favorite regions to explore? Start with the links that I have provided.
