Time For Ivan Thursday

Today we found some time to discuss The One and Only Ivan.  Parents, I encourage you to pick this one up and read it. It is a beautiful story! Today we listened to and discussed a message from the author. We shared some of our thoughts about Ivan's "voice," and we met in small groups to discuss character traits and interesting words.  Each child received an "Ivan" bookmark.  Hold on to these, and don't forget to bring Ivan to school every day.  We are still working with pp. 1-49. By next week, we will discuss 49-99. Catch up on the reading over the weekend if you need to, kids.

Today we also worked on formalizing yesterday's Lab results. We discussed our results and the variables.   Kids began working on formal Lab Reports.  They will finish in the morning. It is not homework.  We practiced our problem solving skills in math. These problems ARE difficult, but not impossible.  I am encouraging kids to use any strategy they can to make sense of the problems. Think through them. Match the words to the numbers.  You will get it!

This evening at home.....

  • complete Go Math pp. 269-270
  • in your Ivan folder, complete page #4: Setting.  Remember, that you must go back to the book to answer the questions completely.
  • make any additions to  Heat on the Move, if needed. Remember, the illustrations are diagrams. You must include a detailed caption or arrows and text that explain your example.
  • prepare for tomorrow's Reading/Spelling test.
