Fun Mythology Friday

The Mythology projects are finished! Thanks for today's title, Ian O.!

This weekend at home...

  • Log on to Google Classroom and finish up, or begin, the Black History scavenger hunt. Read the directions with care. Use a different colored ink to submit your answers. Don't click "turn in" until you are totally finished!
  • Finish up your constellation research.  What is the myth behind your constellation? If you don't have the sheet, just use a separate sheet of paper. Remember, we do not copy from the internet.  Use the edmodo links to help you.
  • We will have a Math test on Wednesday. There is no regular math homework this weekend.
* All kids have logged on to google classroom. Just go online to  https://classroom.google.com
Find the Black History project.  You will write your answers online. No paper needed.  The links at the bottom of the page will take you where you need to go. If a link doesn't work, do a google search. Remember to search " kids learn about.....(type in the name of the person)." This will get you where you need to go with minimal searching.

I have added a new tab to replace the now inactive Go Math link.  The "4th Grade CC Math" tab is a great resource for kids and parents. It will link you to a Live Binder that contains tutorials, games, videos and so much more! I hope that you enjoy this resource!

Thinking Through It Thursday

Today we spent some time reexamining our PARCC responses. This was an opportunity to check our responses, defend our thinking, and even adjust our answers.  We also worked on Roman Numerals, which fits in well with our Mythology unit. Today's math lesson was a bit trickier.  Don't forget to change that mixed number to an improper fraction before you multiply! During Classic Studies, um, I mean Reading, we explored allusions to Greek Mythology in Modern Times.  Midas Mufflers, Amazon.com, Nike, Atlas Movers. There are so many!

This evening at home....

  • complete the homework and practice for Lesson 8.4
  • All 9 Myth Cards are due tomorrow morning.  Color counts!
  • Pick one of the writing prompts for Maniac Chapters 15-16. Write one paragraph. Use text evidence to support your ideas. Give me details or be prepared to rewrite!
Spelling Test tomorrow!
Short Reading Test tomorrow. We will focus on text evidence and vocabulary.

Get it? Today we spent some time discussion Prepositions. Kids created a page in their reading spirals to help them. We also discussed some of this week's tough vocabulary words. What's the Diameter Wednesday

Hello Team 201 Families!  Today we were back in the Science Lab.  Finally!  We tested how distance impacts the diameter and depth of craters.  We used marbles, sand and meter sticks. Trading Card Tuesday

Ian J., I am holding on to your  Post title suggestion!

It was another busy day in 201!  This morning we continued our Conversation Heart Explorations and worked on the Mean, Median, Mode and Range page.  It was a toughie. I am so proud of 201 kids for struggling through this one. The questions were specific, and the the pages were filled with work. We made some mistakes, and hopefully learned a thing or two. Want to reinforce these skills at home? Log on to IXL get some Mean, Median, Mode and Range practice!

Today we also began working on our Mythology Trading Cards. Kids are doing the research and are learning about mythological heroes, monsters and creatures. Each child is responsible for creating 5 God/Goddess Cards, 2 Monster Cards, and 2 Creature Cards.  All of the information about the card requirements is on today's handout. It will get it posted on Google Classroom A.S.A.P.!

We also kicked off our new Science Fusion unit today. Why does the sun rise? Is it Apollo?  Nope!  What causes the seasons? What's a tilt? What's the difference between a rotation and a revolution? Tonight's homework reinforces our first lesson.

This evening at home...

  • Use the Review test to study for tomorrow's Chapter 7 Test.'
  • Read the first lesson in the Science Fusion Earth Moon and Stars chapter. You do not have to do any of the activities.
  • You DO need to write an article using the Extra Extra page. The article should focus on "Night and Day" and "Seasons."
Of course, you already knew all of this, because you copied down the homework from the board and listened carefully to the questions and answers.  See you tomorrow!

P.S. The assignments listed on Google Classroom are not homework.
