Wacky Words Wednesday

Right now, kids are working on some wacky conversations. Ketchup talks to Mustard? Cookies chatting with milk? I can't wait to hear the results. This should be a creative way to practice our dialogue writing skills.

This evening at home...

  • complete the homework and practice for lesson 2.3
  • complete the  dialogue/contractions practice pages in the Readers Notebook pp. 33/34
  • keep on reading!
Tomorrow we take the Science MAPS test. We will also go to the Science Lab to learn about Volume and Water Displacement.

Matter Monday

Today we are talking about MATTER, which doesn't really narrow things down, does it!  Since all of the kids in 201 know that matter is anything that has mass and takes up space, they get the joke. LOL! Teacher humor is funny. To me.

This evening at home....

  • discuss the new vocabulary words.
  • complete pages 27 and 28 in the blue Readers Notebook
  • work on the Go Math Chapter 2 Practice and Homework for lesson 2.1

News

  • The results of last week's math test are in. Any student who earned a score of 85% or lower must do corrections on a separate sheet of paper.  When you log on to think central and see the results, the correct answer is given.  Your task is to show all the work and steps that arrive at that correct answer. Partial credit will be given for responses that are complete. Please have corrections and work complete by next Monday, October 3.
  • Last week's Reading Assessment reveals that all students need more support when it comes to responding to text.  Most kids were amazing about citing evidence, but most did not answer the question directly. We revisited these short answer questions today, and students had the opportunity to submit a new response.   Expressing our ideas in writing is a difficult task, and is one that we will continue to develop.
  • Volunteer opportunity: I need help this Wednesday! Anyone?
  • Multiplication Madness and Brag Tags: Happening Tomorrow!

Time Crunch Thursday

Greetings Team 201 Families,

Today we took the Math MAPS test. This occupied a big chunk of our time today, as did our Bus Evacuation drill. We were able to review the math questions and we did complete our first Science Experiment: Heads or Tails.

This evening at home....

  • find the average, or mean, of your Science Lab Data. To calculate the average, add each trial.  Then, divide this sum by 3.  Use a calculator.
  • reread the Conclusion section of your Lab Sheet.   Does it make sense?  Make revisions and be ready to turn it in tomorrow.
  • study for tomorrow's Chapter 1 Math Test.
  • In the Reading Packet, complete the one sided Langston Hughes Comprehension Questions. I will be collecting the packet tomorrow. Several pages will be unfinished. This is o.k.. I did not assign all of the pages.
OPEN HOUSE is tonight! I hope to see you in 201!

Parents Needed!

Hello Team 201 Parents,

I am hoping to get a work crew together next Wednesday.  We need help getting our October Bulletin Boards looking fresh. The job will involve some cutting and some stapling.   If you can help that morning, please send me an email.

Thanks,

Science and Social Studies Stuff

Hey Team 201 Families,

I hope that you all are well! I am posting some supplemental Science and Social Studies videos and games for you to enjoy.  Our first S.S. unit will focus on World Regions and Geography.  In the student surveys, I leaned that many 201 kids don't feel warm and fuzzy about Social Studies.   Well, I am here to change all that! Who doesn't like learning about new places around the world? Other cultures? Fascinating!  Oceans and landforms? Come on! People and place from the past? Tell me more!

In Science, we are learning about Scientific Inquiry and the Scientific Method.

Bill Nye the Science Guy!

Play this game with Ink and Squidy. It's all about the Scientific Method:

Good Morning Team 201 Families,

We are trying to assemble a crew of 2-4 volunteers to help on the 2nd floor tomorrow morning.  Several Disney classes are piloting an updated Social Studies text book.  The materials are in and are ready to be unpacked and distributed to teachers.  201 is one of the classes who get to test out these brand new materials. Yay!

Please let me know if you can come in to help our new floor director, Ms. Byrd, unpack tomorrow.

Thinking Thursday

Hello Team 201!

I will try to post more later.  Today we talked about how to select books that are "just right."  We spent some time reading Wonder, and we also had time to read independently. We self- corrected last night's math homework and we worked on the next lesson. We also took our first timed multiplication test. Several kids earned "Brag Tags" and are ready to tackle the 3s tomorrow.   We are going for speed and accuracy, and most kids are almost there!  Before lunch, we visited the Science Lab for the first time. We talked about Lab Safety, worked with partners to reinforce the concepts, and took a short quiz.
