read, or reread chapters 27-33. Stop at page 110. Create an inventive chapter title for each of these chapters. No one word titles. Then, explain why you think this title is appropriate. A strong sentence or two for each will do.
This is one of the questions that we attempted to answer in the Lab today. Ask your child about this adaptation. I hope that they mention strong roots and open meadows or fields. We also discussed how vines are adapted to living in a forest environment, where there is less light. Ask and learn!

Totally Silent is what these kids were today from about 9:45-11:15. We took our EOY Math MAPS test today! We also talked Maniac, took an open book quiz on Part 1, worked on The Fun They Had, and had a mini- Math lesson. Some kids were able to "hide" their butterflies around the room too.

That's what today has been...math-filled. Special thanks to Sam for creating today's title. We worked on metric conversions, used the anagram King Henry Usually Doesn't Drink Chocolate Milk, challenged ourselves with some very tricky, multi-step problems. Team 201 really earned their recess!
I love listening to your children read the poetry and hyperbole work that was assigned yesterday. We will hear more after lunch. I hope that all 201 families enjoy the long weekend. I will look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
This weekend at home....

Enjoy this educational tidbit from They Might Be Giants.
Today was Lab day. We observed and dissected Astormeria flowers. Kids were able to identify reproductive parts, chlorophyll- filled leaves and stem structure. Tomorrow we will label and annotate to create colorful infographics. What's an infographic? Use the root clues to figure it out! We also took a math test today. We will correct tomorrow. Have you noticed that we are skipping around a bit in math? Yesterday, we worked on perimeter and area. Today was all about customary measurement. Don't worry, we will cover these concepts in depth in the next few weeks. I want to make sure that we cover the entire 4th grade curriculum, and some of the 5th, before next week's MAP test.
This evening at home....
complete the Owen and Mzee handout.
complete the Measurement Handout.
if you can, check out the Astromeria link on Edmodo. Isa also posted a great link that will help you with your infographic tomorrow.
Why am I posting this picture? Explain to someone at home how this image connects to Maniac Magee and the chapters we read today. How does sharing a meal help connect people?
Maybe today's title would be an good title for Chapter 20 in Maniac Magee. We did lots of reading today! On that note, several kids were missing Maniac Magee today. We will give a thorough search around the pod tomorrow. If you have lost your book, I hope that you will replace it for me!
You will need it for classwork, and next year's fourth graders will need it too! Thanks!
Tomorrow is our Reading MAPS test! We will take the test at 8:30. Kids may want to bring a water bottle to school. I will provide some mints or "brain boosters." Get plenty of rest tomorrow. Yes, this is a big one and I want every 201er to give 120%. Get psyched up, but don't freak out! This is just one test and one snapshot. Give it your best effort and trust that you are prepared, because you ARE prepared! Have you grown academically this year? Yes, yes you have!
This evening at home...
Finish the Math Review pages. We will go over them tomorow and we will test on Wednesday. Most kids are almost finished with this! If you are finished, go over the problems and circle items that you want to spend more time on before the test.
Read for pleasure and record.

Here is an inspirational tune from Mr. Lee: Enjoy it!
It is getting dark out there! I know that you are getting tired of these rain- threatened weekends. The upside is that the forecast looks clear outdoor recess this week.
I know that all 201 students will come to school on Monday with the last regular lesson in Chapter 11 finished. It looks like Monday will be a review day. We will do the Review Test and correct it in class. We will most likely test on Wednesday.
Kids, if I did not collect your Water Web Quest, please bring it to school on Monday. I have most of them. We will finish these up in class, where the connections are better.
Parents, progress reports went home on Friday. Please let me know if you have any questions. We are wrapping up the year, but we have lots more to do in 201!
This week we will return to the Science Lab. We will be learning about the parts and functions of flowers. This is a fun one! Enjoy the video...

Today's Poetry Performance was fantastic. Our visitor from the Chicago Foundation for Education was so impressed by the kids' ability to articulate their ideas. Way to go 201!
This evening at home.....
please look at the classwork and homework from lesson 11.4 again closely. Make corrections if needed. Don't forget to observe each angle carefully before you measure! Draw some conclusions: Is it greater or less than 90 degrees? What should the sum of these angles be? This will help you determine where to look on your protractor, and will help you evaluate your findings. Does my answer make sense? Ask yourself this question. Please.
read over your line in the Water Cycle Readers Theater. Can you add some feeling or emotion. Each one of us has a small part. If each small part is great, the whole package will be fantastic.
read for pleasure for 30 minutes or more.
Notes.......
I have not been stamping Gold Cards. I will try to get this done tomorrow. Thanks for your patience. Please continue to record your reading on the log.
Please bring your script, sharp pencils, and a small bag for the trip tomorrow. Kids will also bring a notebook.
Lunch will be provided on both days. Students who have dietary restrictions should be prepared! Bring an alternate lunch just in case!
Parents who are joining us, please arrive by 8:00 a.m..
Please do not forget that electronic devices are not allowed. Students may bring a camera, but it is not necessary. Phones may not be used as cameras. If a student wants to bring a camera, perhaps Friday is the day to do this.
Please wear comfortable clothes. We will be working on the floor! If weather permits, we will also play outside. Be prepared and remember that it is cooler on the Lake's Northshore. Bring a jacket!
Don't forget that we are taking the EOY MAPS Reading Test next Tuesday!
Today's absence caught me by surprise. I am sorry that I wasn't at Disney with you today. Tomorrow morning will be a busy one. We will spend the morning preparing for our Poetry Slam. You can perform the poem of your choice tomorrow. Some kids may want to work in pairs, as several of you co-authored the jump rope chants. Don't worry, I will explain everything in the morning!
Kids, I hope that the sub told you that this evening at home you should.....
finish the math homework for today's lesson
make those poems look good! Edit, "artify" and make 'em your best!
Mind Blank Monday has been officially replaced. Thank you, Sam and Abi for today's contribution.
This evening at home....

Marble Maze handouts went home today. I will have an exact due date for you tomorrow. This project will be completed at home, and brought to school mid June. Start collecting your materials now. There is no need to spend lots of money. Many items may be found around the house. Please read through the sheets carefully!
On Wednesday, we will have a special visit from a representative from the Chicago Foundation For Education. As you may remember, I was awarded money to purchase class sets of three novels. We will be showing off some of our work on Wednesday. We are planning a poetry reading.
Don't forget that we have two field trips this week! Lunch will be provided.
We are MAPS testing next week. 201 takes the End of Year Reading test on Tuesday, May 19th. Math is the day after Memorial Day, Tuesday, May 26. We are ready to show how we've grown!

Hello 201 Families! Our room is a museum. Many of the dioramas are in, and they look fantastic! I did extend the deadline for both the report and the project. Both are due on Monday.
News and Notes.....
Field Trip Forms were sent home today. 201 is so lucky to participate in the Do Your P'Art Foundations efforts to unite kids from all around Chicago. We will finally meet our pen pals on this two day trip. No, it is not a sleepover. Yes, it is FREE, thanks to Do your P'Art. We will be working with Mr. Szymanski's class and students from Sacred Heart School in Winettka. We will do research, play games, and will create a mural that depicts how water connects us all to one another. Fun! Please bring in the form by Monday.
We are running low on several supplies! We need glue sticks, paper towels and hand sanitizer.
Please make sure that your child comes to school with sharpened pencils. Thank you so much!
MAPS Testing is around the corner! 201 will take the Reading on May 19th and Math on May 26th. Want some extra practice? Click on the Prep Dog link and then on your RIT band. You may also click on the MAPS on the tabs.
