201 will look just a bit different this year. Yes, we are still in the "fishbowl" space. Yet this year, we will be using "flexible seating" rather than traditional assigned desks and tables. Some tables are raised for standing. Others are lowered to accommodate kids who prefer to use cushions to sit on the floor. Other tables will be more traditional, with the addition of a bouncy cushion on the chair. We may even have a few desks. Each child will have his or her own crate for personal belongings, but the space will be shared. The main idea here is: flexible. Kids will have the option to move to the space that works best for them. I will reserve the right to move students to a more productive spot, when needed.I am so excited that this Donors Choose grant is fully funded. Our new seating options should be arriving within the next week or so! I will be looking for parent volunteers to help us get them assembled and organized.
Another change in 201 is a new student resource. This year, each student is 201 will receive a Fountas and Pinnell Reader's Notebook. We will use these cool notebooks to help us set reading, goals, respond to reading and stay organized. I hope that they will be a valuable learning tool. In the past, we have created our own "reader's notebook" using photo copies and spiral notebooks. This year, thanks to a Donors Choose grant, we get the real deal! Yay!
I am sure that parents and students have lots of "new pod/teacher" questions! The new school year brings many changes and is both an exciting and stressful time. I hope to keep 201 families well informed, and will be posting again toward the end of the week. Enjoy the week!
