The Peacock and the Crane

Adaptedby Mrs. Ginn from the Panchatantra Tales

In far off ancient India,
A long time ago
A crane met a peacock
Strutting down the road

The Peacock was brilliant
The Crane’s feathers quite plain
The bright bird boasted, again and again

“Behold my plumage
My feathers robe me like a king
With the colors of the rainbow
My beauty makes the heavens sing”

“How do you compare, dull Crane,
With your feathers grey as dust?
Do you feel useless,
With looks akin to rust?”

A’ sudden from the jungle,
There came an eerie rustle
The hungry tiger was a’ stalking,
and those birds they had to hustle

The Peacock was all a’ flutter,
But the crane was in flight
“Now I soar into the sky,
While you stay down there to fight”

“True, you are a beauty,
but I can float on the clouds.
My dull feathers serve with purpose
And of that I can be proud.”

Fine feathers don’t make fine birds

I Got These Fables
I got these fables, inside my bones
They make us better help us know just where to go
All through our cities, all through our globe
We're flying off through stories when we’re in our zone

We got those morals in our pockets
Got that road before our feet
Got some animals to tell us right from wrong OOH!
We can learn from what they’re saying, be the best that we can be
Hear their morals, learn their lessons, We won't stop

Inside these tales the characters know
How to cooperate, how to fail then grow
And by the end, well we already know
So just imagine, just imagine, just imagine

Learned from fables we can count on our friends friends friends friends
Learned from fables to be true til the end end end end
Learned from fables we can count on our friends friends friends friends
Learned from fables be true til the end end

We've got these fables
So just dance, dance, dance
We've got these fables
So just dance, dance, dance, come on

Ooh, it's something magical
These tales about anthropomorphic animals
They've got their struggles, they've got their goals
And they grow stronger through these tales we all should know
We got those morals in our pockets
Got that road before our feet
Got some animals to tell us right from wrong OOH!
We can learn from what they’re saying, be the best that we can be
Hear their morals, learn their lessons, We won't stop

Inside these tales the characters know
How to cooperate, how to learn and grow
And by the end, well we already know
So just imagine, just imagine, just imagine

Learned from fables we can count on our friends friends friends friends
Learned from fables to be true til the end end end end
Learned from fables we can count on our friends friends friends friends
Learned from fables be true til the end end end end

We've got these fables
So just dance, dance, dance
We've got these fables

So just dance, dance, dance, come on

CAC Opeining Song to Des’ree You Gotta Be

Listen to the tales we’ve told
Morals that have spanned the globe
Fables teach us how to live our lives

Animals personified
Choosing between wrong and right
Fables teach us how to live our lives.

You gotta be..
You gotta be strong
You gotta be fair
You gotta be wiser

You gotta be kind
You gotta be smart
You gotta be clever

You gotta have heart
You gotta work hard
You gotta stay together

All around the globe
Fables lead the way!

It's almost CAC time! This year's topic is ILLINOIS HISTORY! For the performance, we will be focusing on the earliest hunters and gatherers to statehood in 1818.

A few notes about our 2 week arts integrated unit:
  • May 8 is our first day, and the performance is on May 19! Ask for the time off now!
  • Kids will not be split into "interest groups."
  • Each homeroom will have their time in the spotlight, live, on stage.
  • All kids in 201 will have a part to play on stage.
  • 201's portion of the show will focus on French Explorers in Illinois! Ca C'est Bon!
  • French Explorers will not be the only part of Illinois history that we study!
  • All kids in 201 will be doing curriculum- based art projects
  • All kids in 201 will help create artifacts that will be used as props, costumes, or decor.
  • All parents are encouraged to come on in an lend a hand. Send me an email or write a note to let me know which day(s) work for you. If you are able to show up at the last minute, great!
  • Please check this tab often to look for updates regarding projects, material needs and other important CAC updates!
Here are a few items that we will need.  Start collecting! You may bring them in to school at any time.  I will cross off items when they are no longer needed:
  • yard for weaving. We need "natural" colors.
  • styrofoam trays, washed well and dried.  I just washed off the tray that held tonight's chicken dinner.
  • paper grocery bags. Often grocery chains will donate these bags.
  • large needles, with large eyes, for sewing our Fur Traders' "Possibles" bags
I have already made some changes. As we practice together, we may to adjust further!
