I wish that we had conferences EVERY quarter, and I am looking forward to checking in with you, live and in person.  Just like last time, parents will reserve a designated time online.  If you are having trouble with the link, send me an email or a note indicating your desired appointment time.

Here is the link:

Wednesday Wish

Hi Parents,

We are really wishing that we had some tissues. Team 201 has the sniffles and the Pod has exhausted our supply. We could also use a large hand sanitizer. A pack of band-aides would also come in handy.

Thank you for bringing in the water bottles. We have plenty for tomorrow's lab.

Making Theories Monday

There are several theories about the strange"drilling" noise that was heard in Pod 200 today.  Some say it was a jack hammer. Others believe that Pod 300 has a very loud and large pencil sharpener. A select few imagine that someone could be drilling a Pod 200 portal from an alternate universe....We are searching for answers.   If I learn anything, I will let you know.

There were other ideas today too....

  • Thought About "Stacking" Thursday

We did "stack" decimals today. We did do a LOT of thinking today. We did take the PARCC test, again, today, and we did spend a great deal of time cycling with water. Thank you, Audrey, for reminding me so say, "GO CATS!"  I realize that this cat is not wild, and that there is a football field in the background, but COME ON, that cat is funny!

Hello Team201 Families,
It is another busy day in 201. I can't wait to hang up the Maniac projects that were turned in today. They look fantastic. Today, you will see the Mid Chapter Checkpoint in the green folder. The results are strong.   I was a stickler for directions on this one. If the instructions say " in terms of a dollar," I need to see that dollar sign. For example, twenty cents should be written as $0.20   .   Please ask your child to see the quiz.

Today we.....

  • worked on the Water Cycle Info Graphic
  • took Unit 2 of the Math PARCC. Tomorrow is Unit 3.
  • went to Gym
  • worked on Go Math lesson 9.6: adding fractions expressed in tenths and hundredths

  • read and discussed Maniac Magee
  • began poems based on Chapter 29 in M.M.
This evening at home....
  • complete Go Math hw for lesson 9.6
  • publish and illustrate your Maniac Magee poem.
  • read for 30 minutes and get a signature
  • remind a parent/ adult to sign your Gold Card to confirm that work is complete. ☺

Enjoy this video!

Through The Mask Tuesday

Today we....
  • did NOT take Unit 2 Math of the PARCC test. There were too many absences school-wide.  We will continue with testing tomorrow and will finish on Friday.
  • spent lots of time learning about Paleo Indian culture in what we now call Illinois. Of course, your kids know that Paleo, in this context, means ancient. As your child about the falcon masks and the Mississippian culture.
  • read a few chapters of Maniac Magee. We discussed last night's homework and shared some of the great responses.
  • corrected last night's Go Math homework and took the Mid Chapter Checkpoint.
  • launched our new unit: Weather.  Today we will focus on the Water Cycle.

This evening at home...
  • finish the Maniac Project that we began in class yesterday. Some kids are finished. Make sure that you are turning in your very best work! Proofread to find mistakes. Add details and examples from the text.

Making Progress Monday

Hi Team 201 Families,

Today your kids are coming home with Progress Reports. They were supposed to be sent home on Friday, but there was a kink in the system. Thanks for your patience. As this is a 5 week "snapshot," many of the grades in the Portal may be different from the Progress Report.  Please do not hesitate to contact me!

This evening at home.....

  • complete the homework and practice for Go Math lesson 9.5
  • read or reread chapters 24 and 25. What is the most important "take away" from each chapter. Record your answer in a paragraph.
Parents, today's math lesson focuses on "counting up" to get change. For example, if the bill is  Five dollars and 23 cents, and you give the clerk at ten dollar bill, how much change will you get back?   As you know, this is an important life skill. Practice at home with real money!

We will resume PARCC testing tomorrow!

What's Your Sign Wednesday

Today's title originates from our work with constellations and zodiac symbols. We started off by talking about the Universe, our Galaxy, and the Solar System. This is a BIG topic.  The tie- ins with our Mythology Unit are great!  Tomorrow in the lab, we will do some star mapping. Today, kids were able to create their own constellations.  We mapped them in class today and began working on short myths. Kids will be finishing these at home this evening.
