Mixed Number Memory Monday

Today's title reflects both our math lesson and the special assembly we saw in the CAC. The "Mixed Number" part is pretty clear. Just look at today's Go Math homework.  The "Memory" part is a reference to remembering Harriet Tubman's work on the Underground Railroad.   Today we were treated to a play about her life, amazing tenacity, and many acts of heroism.

This evening at home...

  • complete the Go Math homework for 8.3. There are only 5 lessons in the chapter. We may be ready to test on Friday.
  • in Journeys, complete the Analyze Text questions for Story 19 Harvesting Hope
  • Read!!

Trading Card Thursday

Yes, today we did some more research for our Trading Card project.  We read a Greek Mythology Creation story and compared Porquoi, or Why, tales with Creation stories.  We also went to the Science Lab today. I am sorry that I can't show you the work, because it was eaten by your kids.  Ask them!

Mac is telling me that yesterday should have been called "Washington Wednesday" in honor of our first president's birthday. He is right!

This evening at home...

  • Read and record.
  • Complete the hw and practice for lesson 8.2
  • Create a "Creation Card" based on the story that we read in class today. This trading card does not need to have any power symbols. The front will be an original illustration. The lined side will contain a summary. You must use the space provided.
  • Parents, please sign the Gold Card once you have seen and confirmed that hw is complete
We do not have any tests tomorrow! A few kids will take make up tests. You know who you are!

What's A Unit Fraction Warm Weather Wednesday

Today's title is a group effort. Thanks to Muaz and Dhiren for their suggestions.

Parents,

Please check Think Central to see the results of today's Math test!  Students who did not score 80% or higher must do corrections for partial credit. Please get these in by Monday.  Today we practiced our writing skills during the PARCC practice.  Students were asked to compare the themes of two texts: a poem and a narrative.  Tomorrow, we will test our Math skills!

Sunny Sunday

Hi Team 201 Families-

I know that many of you are working on your Figurative Language Boxes/Bags today.
Remember your box should contain one example of each: allusion, simile, metaphor, alliteration, idiom, onomatopoeia, and allusion.  You can add more for extra credit.

Please feel free to bring them in tomorrow if they are ready. We can display them on our bookshelves.  Tuesday is fine too! I can't wait to see your creations!

Freezing But Fabulous Friday

I wish you could see the amazing creations that are going up on our wall. Each child was given a red heart, a sheet of pink paper, and a sheet of white paper.   The challenge is to create an animal with the materials given.  So far, we have a fox, a fish, several bunnies, a puppy, several insects and a tiger. There may be one alien...

  • finish up the SW scrapbook and questions. If it is not finished, it will be in the Green Homework Folder.
  • finish up the Friendship Recipe
  • work on your Figurative Language Project/Valentine Box. Any child who does not celebrate the holiday should still do project. Simply use non-holiday themed figurative language.
  • read and record.

Report Cards and going home today! In the envelope, you will find the most recent MAPS report and an ST Math update.
Please let me know if you would like to talk about your child's progress and goal. We can schedule an in person, phone or email communication.
Book bags are filled! Please clean them out this weekend.
Many kids need pencils! Please check out your child's pencil situation.
Are you able to donate clear packaging tape? I use it to display student work on the windows. If you can spare a roll, I will really appreciate it!

Too Good To Be True Trivia Thursday

It feels like Friday. The kids are not complaining about the furlough day! Thanks to Ryan, Sophia and Kaelyn for collaborating on today's title.

This weekend at home.....

  • complete the paragraph for last night's homework.
  • complete the homework for lesson 7.2
  • complete the two hexagon roots. We started these in class. Many are finished with both! Define the word. Think of an example of the word in use/make a connection with the story. You DO NOT need to find the word within the story to do this.
  • Finish reading Chapter 10 and 11 in TLTWATW.
  • Finish the SW questions.
  • Parents, please check the green folder for the Simplest Form sheet. Most have completed this and are checked off. A few are not.
Kids are really freaking out about this list. The good news is that most kids are finished with everything except the math and the novel reading because they use class time wisely!

Pod 200 will celebrate Valentine's Day on 2/14. Kids may bring in cards and an individually wrapped treat or token to share. There are 26 children in our class.
